FAQ

DeWalt battery questions

Are DeWalt 20V batteries interchangeable with other brands?

No. Each tool brand uses its own battery footprint, contacts and latch, so a DeWalt 20V MAX battery, DeWalt's own or a CEENR replacement, fits DeWalt 20V MAX tools and not other brands' tools. CEENR's cross-brand option is the PDnation™ Universal Power Platform: with the DeWalt 20V MAX Brand Mount, one PDnation battery runs the tools listed on that mount's page, and with another brand's mount, that brand's tools. A Brand Mount works only with a PDnation battery; it does not put a DeWalt battery on another brand's tool.

Are all DeWalt 20V MAX batteries interchangeable?

Yes, with one exception. DeWalt 20V MAX tools take any DeWalt 20V MAX slide battery, including CEENR 5.0, 6.0 and 8.0Ah packs; XR and ATOMIC describe the tool, not a battery requirement, and FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE tools are 20V MAX tools. The exception is the DWST08810, which DeWalt limits to packs of 5Ah or smaller. 20V MAX batteries do not fit 60V MAX FLEXVOLT-only tools, DeWalt 12V MAX tools or older 18V XRP stem-pack tools. The verified tool list is at ceenr.com/compatibility/dewalt-20v-max/.

Are DeWalt 18V and 20V batteries interchangeable?

DeWalt 18V XRP and 20V MAX batteries are not interchangeable: 18V XRP uses the older stem packs (the DC9096 family) and 20V MAX uses slide packs, so neither fits the other's tools directly. DeWalt's DCA1820 adapter lets 20V packs run most 18V tools, but DeWalt says it does not work in the DC608, DC616, DC618 and DC628 nailers. DeWalt 18V XR is different: it is the same slide-pack system as 20V MAX, sold under that name in Europe, the UK and Australia, so 20V MAX batteries fit 18V XR tools.

Is there a replacement battery for DeWalt 18V XRP (DC9096) tools?

Yes. CEENR makes 5.0Ah and 6.0Ah stem-pack batteries that replace the DeWalt DC9096, DC9098 and DW9096 and fit the same battery slot with no adapter or modification; the verified tool list is at ceenr.com/compatibility/dewalt-18v-xrp/. There is also a PDnation™ Brand Mount for DeWalt 18V XRP, which lets a PDnation battery run the 18V XRP tools listed on the mount's page. CEENR does not make an 8.0Ah battery, a charger, a USB-C power adapter or a 150W inverter for 18V XRP; the ones on this page are for DeWalt 20V MAX.

Which size DeWalt 20V MAX battery should I get: 5.0Ah, 6.0Ah or 8.0Ah?

All three use the same DeWalt 20V MAX slide and voltage; a higher capacity just runs longer between charges. The 6.0Ah is the best balance of runtime, weight and price for drills, drivers and impact tools; the 8.0Ah gives 33% more runtime than the 6.0Ah for saws, grinders and blowers; the 5.0Ah is the lightest pack, for overhead work. The 8.0Ah is taller and heavier than a compact pack, so a compact ATOMIC tool feels less balanced with it.

Can I charge a CEENR 20V MAX replacement battery on my DeWalt charger?

Yes. CEENR replacement batteries for DeWalt 20V MAX charge on the DeWalt charger you already own, so you do not need a new charger. It also works the other way: the CEENR 6A fast charger for DeWalt 20V MAX charges 20V MAX slide batteries from 1.5Ah to 8.0Ah, DeWalt's own or CEENR, and a 6.0Ah pack is ready in roughly an hour. CEENR does not make a charger for DeWalt 18V XRP stem packs.

What is the difference between a CEENR replacement battery, a PDnation battery and the USB-C power adapter?

A CEENR replacement battery is a drop-in pack for DeWalt tools and has no USB port. A PDnation™ battery, from CEENR's Universal Power Platform, has two-way USB-C built in, so it is a power bank on its own, and with a DeWalt Brand Mount (sold separately) it runs the tools listed on that mount's page. The 45W USB-C power adapter is not a battery: it clips onto a DeWalt 20V MAX slide battery (1.5Ah to 8.0Ah), DeWalt's own or CEENR, to charge phones, tablets and USB-C laptops.

Are CEENR batteries made by DeWalt?

No. CEENR is an independent battery brand. Its replacement batteries for DeWalt 20V MAX and 18V XRP are engineered to work as direct replacements in DeWalt tools and are not manufactured by, sold by or affiliated with DeWalt. Each pack comes with a 3-year limited warranty and a 30-day return window.
