Makita 18V LXT battery compatibility

Short answer
Nearly every Makita 18V LXT tool with a star or yellow battery plate takes an 18V LXT slide battery — including CEENR 5.0, 6.0 and 8.0Ah packs. Makita says 18V LXT batteries are fully compatible with LXT products, 18V X2 (36V) tools included, which run on two packs. We list 350 verified models across 16 categories below, each checked on makitatools.com. Exceptions: Makita says early LXT tools without a star or yellow plate don't take its 4.0Ah-and-larger packs; 14.4V, 12V max CXT and 40V max XGT-only tools use other batteries (multi-system products with an 18V LXT slot are listed); 78 tools need two packs at once; 13 models (XML02Z, XCV04Z, DML805, XRM02W, XRM03B, XRM04B, DCJ200Z, DCJ201Z, DCV200Z, DCF300Z, DCM500Z, XRV01Z, XRV02Z) have Makita manuals that list only packs below 6.0Ah, marked in the list; and we don't list the taller 8.0Ah for tools that close a cover over the battery or hold it in a pack holder (heated and fan jackets included), or for tools of the kind Makita says its larger 9.0Ah pack must not be used in (e.g. some circular and jig saws).

Almost. Makita says 18V LXT batteries are fully compatible with LXT products, 18V X2 (36V) tools included. The exception is early LXT tools: Makita's 4.0Ah-and-larger packs — and CEENR packs built on the same housing — only fit tools with a star symbol or a yellow battery plate.
Does the 8.0Ah fit every LXT tool?
It uses the same LXT slide, but it's taller than a 6.0Ah BL1860B, and Makita's manuals list packs only up to 6.0Ah. We don't list the 8.0Ah for tools that close a cover or door over the battery or hold it in a pack holder — radios, coolers, some work lights, mowers, sprayers, covered vacuums, heated and fan jackets — or for tools of the kind Makita says its own larger 9.0Ah pack must not be used in.
Which Makita tools need two batteries?
18V X2 (36V) versions of rotary hammers, 7-1/4" and rear-handle saws, miter saws, mowers, blowers, chain saws, string trimmers and dust extractors run only with two 18V packs installed. Four-bay mowers and material carts run on two packs and take two more for longer runtime. A few '18V X2' products run on one pack: the DCW180 and ADCW180 coolers, the DML809 and DML810 lights, the XUC01Z hand truck/wheelbarrow and the DRC200 and DRC300 robotic vacuums.
What is Star Protection, and do CEENR packs work with it?
Star Protection is a data link between a star-marked Makita battery and the tool; Makita says the tool-side shutdowns for overload, over-discharge and overheating work with star-marked packs. CEENR packs fit star-plate tools and carry their own built-in BMS protection.
Do 18V LXT batteries fit 14.4V, CXT or XGT tools?
No — 14.4V LXT, 12V max CXT and 40V max XGT tools each use their own packs. The exception is multi-system products with an 18V LXT slot, such as the XRM06B–XRM11 radios and the DCM501Z coffee maker: those take 18V LXT packs and are in the list above.
My tool isn't on the list — will the battery still fit?
If your tool is an 18V LXT tool with a star or yellow battery plate, it takes an 18V LXT slide battery. We only list models we could check on makitatools.com, discontinued ones included. Not sure? Email the model number to info@ceenr.com.
